Hello ! WRM Newsletter
Time for an update...

As a loyal member of Who-Remembers-Me.com, we'd like to give you an update on what we've been doing to improve your user experience and how you can benefit from the site.

JUST TO REMIND YOU...
Send your story
Who-Remembers-Me is consistent in generating success stories of old friends who have found one another because it is unique. The site has 17 different search categories, which means you can search for people from your past by street name, pub, army regiment, children's home, workplace and many more; you don't even need to remember their name!

These attendance categories have proved useful in helping our members find one another, even where other sites, such as Facebook have failed. The reason for this is that you can build a criteria-specific search, meaning that you are far more likely to find the 'John Smith' you're looking for.

Here are a couple of the latest comments from our members:
God, are you a hard person to track down, I feel like Sherlock Holmes. I've tried all other media like Facebook and such like but couldn't track you down. I really hope you get this message and congratulations on your marriage last year!
Elaine, Glasgow
Wow, it's been a while. Tried looking you up on Facebook but couldn't find you, even with searching through all the South African schools and hometowns and such. If you're in the same area still, we should get together and catch-up, I know a lot has happened since I was 10 or 11 and I'm sure you have lots of stories!
Jeff, US

IMPROVEMENTS
Start searching
As membership numbers have gone through the roof, with the last count reaching over 38 million, we decided it was time to make a few changes, to ensure your time on the site is as enjoyable as possible. We've optimised our member database to speed up the time it takes to carry out a search: search queries that once retrieved results in two seconds can now do so in just 0.5 seconds!

WELL, WHAT DO YOU THINK?
We are of course referring to our spanking new website! New look, new feel, exciting new features... Plus, have you seen how many members we've got? There's now a running total on the home page which counts each and every member as they join, and the last time we looked, we had more than 34 million members worldwide! Not bad.

NEW LOOK, NEW FEATURES
So, the site looks fabulous, but what else does it enable you to do? If you've already been on you'll know that it's much easier to navigate, it's less cluttered and it's got a much more modern feel. There are also some brilliant new features. Members can:

Comment on each other's photos
Add friends
Leave comments to jog people's memories
Add multiple photos and videos to your profile from any period in your life
Keep track of friends in an interactive friends list rather than search for them repeatedly

Log in and see for yourself

COMING SOON

And still to come is the new Member Notice Board, which will invite members to send in the names of people they're looking for, along with a line or two of information on when and where they last saw each other. We'll then post this announcement on the notice board inviting people to come forward with any leads. You never know, the person you're looking for may even read your message and get in touch.

The notice board will also give members the opportunity to post details of any forthcoming school reunions or gatherings.

We'll also be introducing user-specific news feeds showing recent site activity relevant to the individual and richer establishment profiles enabling you to tell us more about your attendances.

STILL ABOUT THE STORIES - TELL US YOURS!

However for all the tweaks we make, the concept of the site remains unchanged: to reconnect people all over the world. We're always really interested in ANY successful matches through the site and each month, we invite you to 'tell us your story'. All stories are mentioned on our 'Successful Stories' page and the sender of our favourite story, our 'Star Story' will receive a delicious food hamper or magnum of Champange.

So, even if yours isn't a tale of epic proportions, please let us know how you've got on. You can do this by emailing sam@who-remembers-me.com or by responding to our 'tell us your story' prompts.

RECENT STORIES
First Love, Second Chance   Ex-Army Buddies Reunited
Childhood sweethearts Les and Bev Parr were reunited through the site after going their separate ways some 40 years ago. They met up for the first time in 38 years and after just a few days Les proposed. Bev said yes and on Valentine's Day last year they were married in Ayers House, Australia!
Bob Paylor from Newcastle in the UK recently found several ex-Army buddied through the site. He and his friends used to belong to the Royal Electrical & Mechanical Engineers and now all five are back in touch - three of them have already met up in person - and there are plans for an even bigger reunion.

ATTENDANCES AND WHY THEY'RE SO IMPORTANT

We were only able to put Bob and his friends and Les and Bev back in touch because they had filled in their 'attendances'. These are our 'search-engine' institutions: schools, clubs, streets etc. The more attendances you add, the easier it is for us to make a match and for you to be found by old friends. There are 18 different attendance categories to choose from, as well as a new name search box.

Whenever a new member adds an attendance that matches one of yours, we will email you a link to their profile. We'll also send you a monthly activity report with all your matches at a glance. So keep on adding! Attendances are what keep the Who-Remembers-Me community together - without them we can't match you with anyone.

NOVEMBER NEWSLETTER 2009
blue_tr

Welcome to our November newsletter! It's been a
while since we've put pen to paper, but that's
because we've been busier than ever processing
new membership registrations.

The last time we reported back, we had close to
4.6 million members worldwide. We now have just
over 5.4 million and if our number crunching's
right, it won't be long before we top six million.

Of course, more members means more matches
and we're thrilled to report a significant increase in
the amount of correspondence through the site.
You've certainly been keeping us busy!

We've also been working on a brilliant new look for
the site, which we think you're going to love, as well
as some fantastic new features that will enable
you to do so much more with us.

These changes will be taking place over the next
couple of months, but here's a sneak preview...

MEMBER NOTICE BOARD
gary_t_corner

One of the first new features you'll
see is the new Member Notice Board.
We'll be inviting members to send us
in the names of people they're looking
for, along with a line or two of
information on when and where they
last saw each other. We'll then post
this announcement on the notice
board inviting people to come forward
with any leads. You never know, the
person you're looking for may even
read your message and get in touch.

The notice board will also give
members the opportunity to post details
of any forthcoming school reunions or
gatherings.

Messages will remain on the board for
one or two months after which time
they'll be replaced with new appeals
or announcements. Sound good?
That's not all...

RECENT STORIES

Here are some examples of stories we've
featured recently:

Bringing Scotus Academy back together,
pupil by pupil!

And remember Lindsay Wilson from Edinburgh
in the UK? In 2005 he undertook the massive
task of computerising his school's entire
register. Scotus Academy aka Beechwood
House, in Corstorphine Road, Edinburgh, first
opened its doors in 1953 and Lindsay was the
first boy registered. Over the next 25 years that
followed, Beechwood House welcomed a
further 1269 pupils. Sadly in 1978 Scotus
cademy closed its doors as a school for the
last time. Undeterred, Lindsay set about
reuniting as many former pupils as possible
and so far, has been in touch with a massive
800 FPs, thanks in part to Who- Remembers-
Me.com. As each year passes Lindsay holds a
school reunion and each year the number of
FPs attending increases. With a little luck 2009
will be his most successful year yet!

Voortrekkerhoogte High School friends reconnect

Fanie Dreyer from Namibia wrote to say he’s
recently reconnected with an old high school
friend from the late sixties (1967/1968). He and
Frans, now living in New Zealand, used to go
to Voortrekkerhoogte High school together in
Pretoria, South Africa. They were later
transferred to Walfish Bay in Namibia (formerly
South West Africa) and lost contact. Fanie says
he’s very glad to have made contact with Frans
and through him he has been able to catch up
with other friends.

RECENT STORIES

Gulf Air manager back home and back in
touch with old school friends!

Seif Altawdi from Cairo in Egypt was recently
reunited with a number of old school friends
through the site. Seif, who has spent much
of his life living outside of Egypt, working as
an airport manager for Gulf Air in the UK,
Qatar, Bahrain, Thailand, India and
Switzerland, reconnected with former pupils
of Al Orman High School and now, almost 50
years later, he meets with them every month
at the local sports club.

Fellow churchgoers back in contact

Jo Petrovic recently reconnected with fellow
churchgoer Barbara whom she met a
number of years ago at Toowoomba Church
in Australia. Back then she and Barbara
were leaders of a children's club called the
Kings Commandos, and Jo remembers
Barbara kindly loaning her her Kenwood
Mixmaster to make fudge and ice-cream for
fundraising. Sadly, the two ladies lost touch
when Barbara moved but we were able
to bring them back together and now they are
in regular contact once again!

Bowled over by web contact

And then there’s Phil Wilkins in Plymouth in
the UK, who with our help managed to trace
ex Tenpin Bowling buddy and dear friend
Neil Ingram, some 8,000 miles away in
Australia!

A QUICK WORD FROM THE BOSS

ATTENDANCES AND WHY THEY'RE SO IMPORTANT

gary_t_corner

And finally, a quick word from the Big
Boss. Who-Remembers-Me.com is a
free site – there is no membership fee,
no search fee and no hidden costs.
However, we do have to finance the site
somehow; we operate 7 servers and
employ 9 members of staff, who
despite being asked very nicely, simply
refuse to work for free! So, in order to
remain 100% free, we ask you, at
the moment of joining, to agree to us
sending you carefully selected
advertising campaigns. This does
mean you’ll get the odd special offer
in amongst your correspondence from
us, but this is in return for a fantastic
free service.

Ok, that’s all for now! We’ll be back later
in the New Year with more website
news and those competition results!

Please remember we were only able to put these
people back in touch because they had filled in
their ‘attendances’. These are our ‘search-
engine’ institutions: schools, clubs, streets etc.

The more attendances you add, the easier it is for
us to make a match and for you to be found by old
friends. There are 18 different attendance
categories to choose from, as well as a new
name search box, so there really is no excuse!

Whenever a new member adds an attendance
that matches one of yours, we will email you with
a link to their profile. We’ll also send you a
monthly activity report with all your matches at a glance.

So keep on adding! Attendances are what keep
the Who-Remembers-Me community together -
without them we can’t match you with anyone.

APRIL NEWSLETTER 2009

Hello and welcome to our April newsletter, our first newsletter of 2009!

With an ever−increasing database of members and more tools than ever at our fingertips, this year promises to be our most successful year yet!

What’s more, we’re still 100% FREE. Now that’s got to be a good start, hasn’t it?

100% FREE Membership

Last year we made several changes to the Who−Remembers−Me.com website and the most popular by far, was our decision to scrap all membership charges.

Well you’ll be pleased to know that the site is still completely free of charge − free to register, free to search and free to contact other members − and we intend to keep it that way.

All we ask is that you add as many attendances as possible to give us the best chance of finding you a match!

BRAND NEW NAME SEARCH ENGINE
A DEFINITE HIT

Our latest addition to the site has also proven very popular. The new ‘Name Search’ facility is perhaps our most specific search engine yet, and allows you to look for people by name.

Simply type in the first name and surname of the person you’re looking for − the name search engine is on the home page with the rest of the attendances − and we’ll run a search through all names listed on our database to see whether there’s a match.

And don’t worry if you can’t remember whether it was Smith with an ‘i’ or Smyth with a ‘y’, we’re able to search partial spellings for you as well.

All matches are displayed according to country and in addition to first name and last name; the person’s birth date is given to help you narrow down your search results.

You then have the opportunity to click through to the person’s profile and send them a message.

You’ll also be able to see what attendances they’ve listed, which should help you to establish whether you have the right Mr or Mrs Smith, and who knows, may enable you to find yet more people from your past.

And remember, the person you are looking for may have emigrated so don’t forget to check the search results for the other countries too!

ATTENDANCES
AND WHY THEY’RE SO IMPORTANT

For those of you who are new to WRM, ‘attendances’ are the names of any ‘search−engine’ institutions such as colleges, schools and clubs you may have attended, or streets you may have lived on.

They enable us to make our matches and bring people together, which is why we ask you to add as many as possible.

There are 18 different attendance categories to choose from, as well as a new name search box, so there really is no excuse!

The more attendances you add, the easier it is for you to be found by old friends.

Whenever a new member adds an attendance that matches one of yours, we will email you with a link to their profile. We’ll also send you a weekly activity report with all your matches at a glance.

So keep on adding! Attendances are what keep the Who−Remembers−Me community together − without them we can’t match you with anyone.

YOUR STORIES

Mum & daughter reunited for the first time since birth

You never cease to amaze us and in 2008 you sent us some truly amazing stories.

However if we had to pick one that really stood out, then without a doubt it has to be Michelle Reidy’s.

Separated at birth, Michelle, from New Zealand, spent several years looking for her mother and in October last year, she sent a hesitant email to a lady in Australia, Lynn Pearson, asking if she gave birth to a baby girl all those years ago.

Subsequent emails confirmed that Michelle had indeed found her birth Mum and the rest, as they say, is history. Incredibly, just a month later, both ladies were reunited for the first time in 43 years, and in December, Michelle spent her first Christmas with Mum Lynn and three younger siblings she didn’t know she had! Truly amazing!

If you haven’t already seen it, read Michelle’s story in full on our Successful Stories page.

IS YOURS OUR NEXT STAR STORY?

Do you have a success story like Michelle? Write and tell us!

Even if yours isn’t a tale of epic proportions, we’re still interested in any successful matches through the site. If you’ve got some news, no matter how big or small, please let us know.

We’ll do our best to mention it on our ‘stories’ page and you never know, yours may even qualify for our monthly Star Story and delicious food hamper or magnum of Champagne.

So go on, get scribbling! For the very latest gossip from all around the world log onto the ‘Successful Stories’ page.

RECOMMENDATIONS & SUGGESTIONS

That’s all for now; we’ll be back later in the year with more website news.

In the meantime, if you have any recommendations or suggestions that might improve our site, please let us know. If we use any of them we’ll send you a hamper by way of saying thank you.

Hello and welcome to our April newsletter, our first newsletter of 2009! With an ever-increasing database of members and more tools than ever at our fingertips, this year promises to be our most successful year yet!

WRM Newsletter - June 2008
WELCOME to our June newsletter,
our second newsletter of 2008.
As always, we've lots to report!
Our long-awaited name search engine is at last up and running and by all accounts is working rather well!
But that’s not all; by the end of June we hope to have in place an ingenious ‘cross-search’ tool that should make the detective work a little bit easier.
Curious? Read on!
WRM's 'NAME SEARCH' engine arrives
It's taken a little longer than anticipated but the new name search engine is at last up and running.
Perhaps our most specific search engine yet, you can now look for people by name.
Simply type in the first name and surname of the person you're looking for - name search box is on the home page with the rest of the attendances - and we'll run a search through all names listed on our database to see whether there's a match.
And don't worry if you can't remember whether it was Smith with an 'i' or Smyth with a 'y', we're able to search partial spellings for you as well.
All matches are displayed according to country. You then have the opportunity to click through to the person's profile and send them a message.
You'll also be able to see what attendances they've listed, which should help you to establish whether you have the right Mr or Mrs Smith, and who knows, may enable you to find yet more people from your past.
And remember, the person you are looking for may have emigrated so don't forget to check the search results for other countries.
New 'CROSS-REFERENCE' search tool
In addition to the new 'name-search' box, we are also putting in place a new cross-referencing search tool that should increase your chances of finding a match through the site considerably.
By the end of June you'll be able to search according to town or village and find ALL the attendances listed in that area.
These attendances will already be listed individually on the site, but by requesting a local search of an area, the database will return all attendances for that area.
Whether it's a local gym, school, pub or street, you'll be able to see who has listed what for your particular search area during your specified time frame, which may prompt you into exploring an attendance you hadn't previously considered and should increase your chances of finding a match.
This is not to be confused with the existing Neighbourhood attendance category, which searches for people according to town or village.
Attendances - KEEP ADDING!
For those of you who are new to WRM, 'attendances' are the names of any 'search-engine' institutions such as colleges, schools and clubs you may have attended, or streets you may have lived on.
There are 18 different attendance categories to choose from, as well as a new name search box, so there really is no excuse!
The more attendances you add, the easier it is for you to be found by old friends.
The more attendances you add, the easier it is for you to be found by old friends and whenever a new member adds an attendance that matches one of yours, we will email you with a link to their profile.
We also send you a weekly activity report with all your matches at a glance.
So keep on adding! Attendances are what keep the Who-Remembers-Me community together - without them we can't match you with anyone.
Over to you: your STORIES
As ever, we've had an impressive amount of stories and just last month, Canada came under the spotlight with a reunion between two old school friends, one living in Calgary, Alberta and the other some 6,500 kilometres away in the UK! The two ladies hadn't seen or heard from each other in over 44 years and are absolutely thrilled to be put back in contact! Amazing!
See their story in full on April's story page.
You could be our next STAR STORY
Please keep those stories coming. Even if yours isn't a tale of epic proportions, we're still interested in any successful matches through the site.
If you've got some news, no matter how big or small, please let us know.
We'll do our best to mention it on our 'stories' page and you never know, yours may even qualify for our monthly Star Story and delicious food hamper or magnum of Champagne.

Recommendation & SUGGESTIONS
That's all for now; we'll be back in August with more website news.

Who-Remembers-Me.com October 2007 Newsletter
Welcome
to our October NEWSLETTER,
the second NEWSLETTER of 2007!
Wherever you are in the world we hope you enjoyed the first half of 2007 and the mid-year break. For some of you this will have been a summer holiday and for others, July and August are all about the winter months.

Here at WRM we’ve been as busy as ever and as we head into October and November, we’ll be bringing you some more exciting changes!
Who-Remembers-Me.com
in ASSOCIATION with ipoints!
First of these changes is the new ipoint reward scheme. We are very pleased to announce our new partnership with ipoints.co.uk and are keen to let you know how this is going to benefit you!

ipoints.co.uk is the UK’s most generous online loyalty programme with over one million members and 300 partners.

As with store reward cards you can now earn ipoints every time you use the WRM website and exchange these ipoints for gifts when you’ve accumulated enough.

Rewards include vouchers from major online stores such as Amazon and John Lewis, CDs, DVDs, wine and much, much more.

Here’s how the ipoints add up:
  • Recommend your friends = 200 ipoints
For each friend you recommend that then registers on our site you’ll earn 200 ipoints. The more you recommend the more ipoints you’ll receive.
  • Add your attendances = 10 ipoints
For each attendance you add you’ll receive 10 ipoints. The more you add the more ipoints you’ll receive.
  • Add your profile = 25 ipoints
Write or adjust your profile and you’ll receive a one-off reward of 25 ipoints.
  • Upload your photo = 50 ipoints
Upload your photograph and you’ll receive 50 ipoints.
  • Send a message = 200 ipoints
Send a message to another WRM member and we’ll reward you with a whopping 200 ipoints! (limited to five per 30 days)

So what are you waiting for? Start earning ipoints now by logging into your WRM account and signing up for ipoints.
New NAME Search!
Our second exciting development is the new Name Search facility we’ll be launching in October or November!

Many of you have asked why we don’t have a facility that allows you to search by name – well, it won’t be easy searching the world over for surnames - but that’s exactly what we intend to do.

Very soon you’ll be able to type in the surname of the person you’re looking for to see whether there’s a match on our database. If there is, we’ll tell you which attendances they’ve listed and you’ll have the opportunity then to send them a message.

And you thought we didn’t take your comments on board...!
Multiple Photo Upload!
Your very own GALLERY!
Finally the third exciting change to look out for is the facility to upload as many photos as you like!

At the moment there’s room to upload just the one photo to accompany your personal profile, but so many of you have been sending in your old school snaps and reunion photos, that we decided it would be a shame not to display them somewhere.

So it won’t be long before every member will have the opportunity to upload as many photos as they want to – you’ll have your own private gallery so to speak and will be able to share a giggle with friends, poking fun of their long white socks and butter-wouldn’t-melt pigtails!
And NOW over to YOU...
Well, hats off to our friends ‘down under’! It
seems that Australia is our fastest growing
member country with membership at an all-time high.

So in honour of our Australian friends, we’ll be taking a look at a couple of success stories from Australia...
YOUR Stories
Most recently we heard from Bev Atherton who managed to reconnect with an old school friend, living, unbeknown to them both, just around the corner from her!

Then there’s Cheryl Cole from Mount Isa in Queensland who found AND met up with an old friend from her school days.

Their two families have since visited each other and there has even been a school reunion for former pupils of the local Mount Isa State School!

What about the Class of 1976 from Colyton High, New South Wales? Former pupil Susan Bagust recently caught up with an old school friend through WRM, who was still in contact with a number of other high school friends, and now there is a planned Colyton High reunion in Sydney!

And talking of Sydney, let’s not forget Dot Cowie, who at the beginning of the year, made her daughter’s dream come true when she found her godmother through the site in time for her wedding...

This is just a small selection of all the stories we’ve received throughout the year, but we’d like to thank everybody everywhere in the world for taking the time to write in.

Please keep them coming! Every month we’ll reward the sender of the best story, our ‘star story’, with a magnum of Champagne or luxury food hamper.

For the very latest gossip from all around the world log onto the ‘Successful Stories’ page.
Attendances
And don’t forget those attendances! Make sure you list as many attendances as possible. Without these we can’t match you with anyone.

‘Attendances’ are the names of any ‘search-engine’ institutions such as colleges, schools and clubs you may have attended, or streets you may have lived on.

There are 18 different attendance categories to choose from so there really is no excuse! The more attendances you add, the easier it is for you to be found by old friends. Click here to add attendances.

Remember, it’s free to add as many attendances as you like and it’s now free to search attendance categories. Whenever a new member adds an attendance that matches one of yours, we will instantly email you with a link to their profile.

We also send you a monthly ‘matching attendance report’ with all your matches at a glance.
Recommendations & SUGGESTIONS
That’s all for now folks; we’ll back towards the end of the year with more website news.

In the meantime, if you have any recommendations or suggestions that might improve our site, please let us know. If we use any of them we’ll send you a hamper by way of saying thank you

October 2007
Wherever you are in the world we hope you enjoyed the first half of 2007 and the mid-year break. For some of you this will have been a summer holiday and for others, July and August are all about the winter months.

Long-lost cousins found!

Two former school friends from the Philippines managed to track each other down after almost 45 years.

One is still in the Philippines while the other, like many of their school friends, is now in the US, but through the site and through information shared with other friends through the site, they’ve realised they are actually related to each other and are in fact cousins!

Ex-WRAC friends reunited after 40 years

Two ladies, both in the WRAC in the early sixties, have recently found each other through the site, and have even met up to catch up on old times.

Although sent to different postings, to different countries, they ended up living just fifty miles apart without realising it and are now back in regular contact thanks to WRM.

Iranian School Friends Reconnected After 28 Years Apart

Two former friends who went to school in Tehran, Iran, recently found each other in the UK.

Only eight at the time, the girls moved with their families from the UK to Iran where their fathers accepted positions at the Iranian oil company OSCO.

That was 28 years ago! Both have since returned to the UK and are now busy catching up on some very special memories of school life in Iran.

Continuing the Rhenish Tradition

Former schoolgirls from Cape Town in South Africa are now back in touch after several years apart.

The ladies, from Rhenish Girls’ School in Stellenbosch, South Africa, recently held their 15 year school reunion after finding several classmates through Who-Remembers-Me.com.

Auf Wiedersehen Pet – Army couples reunited after almost 30 years apart

Originally stationed with the British army in Germany in the early seventies, the two couples became the best of friends but lost touch when they returned to the UK.

Thirty years later and we were able to match their army attendances, the Mulheim barracks in Germany, and put them back in touch.

‘Aint no mountain high enough…

As these stories illustrate, the past really is just a click away regardless of where you are in the world and irrespective of distance.

Dear Santa, please put me in touch with…

So if there’s somebody you’re trying to find, make sure you list as many ‘attendances’ as possible.

Remember, it’s free to add as many attendances as you like and whenever a new member adds an attendance that matches one of yours, we will instantly email you with a link to their profile.

You can also get your friends and family involved, click here to use our ‘tell a friend’ link. More members really does mean better odds of finding the person you’re looking for.

Here’s to 2007!

Finally, the whole Who-Remembers-Me team would like to wish all our members around the world a very happy holiday season!

Here’s to happy memories, remembering the good times and getting in touch with old friends – wherever they may be! Happy Christmas and all the best for 2007!

The ‘Success Stories’ page is dedicated entirely to you and your fabulous success stories, so keep ‘em coming!

‘Star Story’
This is exactly what Gerrie and Geordie Fawcett did. They got in touch to let us know they had successfully reconnected with ex-army pals, Colin and Barbara Proffitt.

Originally stationed with the British army in Germany in the early seventies, the two couples became the best of friends. But after five years Gerrie and Geordie returned to the UK and the famous foursome lost touch.

Thirty years later and Gerrie, now a grandmother of four, received an email asking if she knew a Colin Profitt.

She had registered her details with WRM and within minutes of listing in her attendances the Mulheim barracks in Germany, we had found an immediate match in Colin who was already a member!

Before long Gerrie and Geordie and Colin and Barbara were catching up on almost 30 years of history!

What’s more, an article printed in Gerrie’s hometown paper, The Belfast Telegraph, attracted another ex-army pal, who on recognising Geordie’s picture in the paper, got in touch!

It just goes to show, the past really is a click away.

Click here to see what everybody else has been up to or to submit a story of your own.

Leave a MESSAGE after the beep...
We are proud to announce the launch of our brand new ‘message centre’.

If you’ve not seen it, the message centre operates in much the same way as an email inbox and can be found on the main menu after logging in, under the heading ‘MY MESSAGES’.

The main benefits of this new feature are increased security and privacy.

It enables you to communicate with people you find on the site THROUGH the site without divulging either party's personal information such as email addresses.

The only information received either way is the message!

WRM will email you each time someone sends you a message and you’ll be able to retrieve your messages via the message centre, where you can reply to them if you wish.

You’ll also be able to manage your messages as you would any other email account. To visit the message centre, click here.

Attendances, Attendances, ATTENDANCES!
And finally, don’t forget those attendances! It’s all about attendances so add as many as you can. Click here to add some attendances now.

For any newcomers to the club, ‘attendances’ are the names of any ‘search-engine’ institutions such as colleges, schools and clubs you have attended, or the streets you have lived on and places you have worked.

There are 18 different attendance categories to choose from so there really is no excuse! If you do not add any attendances, we can’t match you with anyone.

On the other hand, the more attendances you add, the easier it is for you to be found by old friends.

Remember, it is free to add as many attendances as you like. And whenever a new member adds an attendance that matches one of yours, we will instantly email you with a link to their profile. Just ask Gerrie!

In the meantime, don’t forget to tell all your friends, (click here to use our “tell a friend” link) and once again, a huge thank you for your continued support.

Summer 2006
Here it is folks, the summer newsletter and what a summer it’s been! Record temperatures matched only by record numbers of new members.

newsletter
Welcome
to the first NEWSLETTER of 2006!
It’s hard to believe that Easter has already been and gone but here at WRM Towers, we’ve been so busy processing all of our new members we’ve hardly stopped!

More than a MILLION!
And yes, it’s official, WRM now has over one million members and counting! It’s almost three years to the day since we opened our gates, which means we’re averaging a staggering 900 new members a day! It’s no wonder we’ve been busy.

But we’re not the only ones judging by the number of stories we’re getting on a daily basis. It’s great to see so many of you getting in touch with familiar faces and from all over the world.

Registrations in every country WORLDWIDE!
Fact! WRM now has registrations in every single country worldwide, and for all you pub quizzers out there, there are 192 of them, (not including Taiwan), which makes us the world’s number one service for finding old friends.

Hola! Bonjour! Tag! Olá! Ciao! A massive, multi-lingual hello to you all!

Isn’t it a small world? YOUR stories…
As we’re all drawn together under the Who-Remembers-Me roof, it’s funny how the expression ‘it’s a small world’ suddenly makes so much sense…

Well, even more so for two 35 year old Aussies who hadn’t spoken to each other since their school days. They hooked up through the site only to discover they are both living in the UK!

And two couples that were in the army, stationed together in Germany, found each other after 25 years and now plan to meet up. “Who-Remembers-Me.com has opened up the floodgates to friends from our past; it’s lovely catching up and soon we’ll be meeting up. Thank you!” Gerry & Geordie Fawcett, Salisbury.

We’ll keep you posted on their progress and bring you more of your success snippets in each newsletter, so tell us yours!

Got a story to tell? We’ll DRINK to that!
If you have contacted someone through the website, we’d love to know how you got on. Send your story through to me, sam@who-remembers-me.com, and I’ll be in touch. There’s a complimentary magnum of Champagne for any stories we use on the site.

So get cyber-scribbling! Don’t forget to add your attendances. (Click here to add some attendances now)

What is an ATTENDANCE?
After you have logged in, you can add your ‘attendances’. This means the names of any ‘search-engine’ institutions such as colleges, schools and clubs you have attended, or the streets you have lived on and places you have worked.

On Who-Remembers-Me.com there are 18 different ‘attendance categories’ to choose from. If you do not add any ‘attendances’, you will not appear on the site. Conversely, the more ‘attendances’ you add, the easier it is for you to be found by old friends.

It is free to add as many ‘attendances’ as you like so that people can find and contact you.

Or as a full member you can do the Sherlock work yourself and search through any of the 18 categories to find out what pals and colleagues have been up to since you saw them last.

To keep you on your toes, we will email you as soon as a new member adds an ‘attendance’ that matches one of yours, with a link directly to their profile. It couldn’t be simpler!

Upgrade your account to full membership ABSOLUTELY FREE
And for existing WRM members there couldn’t be a better time. We are now offering all of our none full members an alternative way to become full members completely free of charge. This offer will be sent out by email so watch out for it if you are not already a full member.

In the meantime, don’t forget to tell all your friends, (click here to use our “tell a friend” link) and a huge thank you for your continued support.

Happy Holidays!

Here at WRM towers, we've started on the mince pies and are busily roasting chestnuts as we speak! Mmmm. The whole team would like to wish all our members around the world a happy holiday season. Where ever you are and what ever you are celebrating, we send you our warmest wishes. Have a good one!

New attendance category

Musos wishing to trace old band mates need look no further.

In our ongoing efforts to ensure Who-Remembers-Me.com is a useful site for people from all walks of life, we have added a new attendance category: Bands.

Anyone who has been a member of a rock band, pop group, orchestra, or any other kind of musical ensemble can add their details.

In the first month we've already had three thousand people registering under the new category.

Some recent additions range from the bravely named Grunt, Chewy and Toxic Lover to the more genteel sounding Liverpool Cantata Choir, the City of Melbourne Highland Pipe Band and the Ukrainian American String Band. Hello to you all and thanks for registering.

Click here to add bands to your attendances

Nearly there

WRM now has 750 thousand members. And, with your help, we expect to reach our first major milestone by next March: one million registered members.

Thanks again for all your support and patience during these early days. We're delighted that so many of you are now finding old friends through the site - by the time we get to a million we should all begin to see real results.

In the meantime don't forget to tell a friend

Affiliates

The eagle eyed amongst you may have noticed a new link on the site.

We've added an 'Affiliates' page for anyone who is interested in promoting WRM on their website and the chance to share in our success.

Our affiliates can earn commission while helping to increase the size of the database and create more opportunities to find old friends.

New look for WRM mail

To go with the new-look Who-Remembers-Me.com website, we've re-written and re-designed all the mail that leaves the site. We hope you find it clearer and more enjoyable to read.

Attendances*

It's great to see that the numbers of matches on the monthly Matching Attendance Reports are increasing each month.

To make this free service work for you, you need to have added your attendances - and, if you already have, why not add some more!

Don't forget, it is completely free to add 'attendances' and the more you include the easier it is to be found by old friends. For example, instead of listing only your schools or workplaces, why not add the streets you've lived on and the clubs or teams you've been a member of?

Whenever a new member adds an 'attendance' that matches one of yours, we will instantly email you with a link directly to their profile.

Click here to update your attendances

*'Attendances' are the institutions you have attended such as colleges, schools and clubs, or the streets on which you have lived and places you have worked.

That's all for now. See you next time.

Best wishes and happy holidays!

newsletter
It's here!
Well, it's finally here. The new-look Who-Remembers-Me.com quarterly newsletter has arrived.

We're sorry it's been a long time coming, but at WRM Towers we've been somewhat overwhelmed by the sheer number of new members signing up from around the world (more on that later).

Because we've been growing at an unprecedented rate the pressure has really been on to cope with demand. We've now taken on new members of staff and the team is ready for future challenges.

New look for website
Our newly expanded workforce has been beavering away to create a brand new WRM website.

The smart new site, launched this week, boasts all your favourite features in an extra user-friendly format with a few added extras too.

We think it looks great what do you think? We love to hear from members so please let us know.
Check out the new site now at who-remembers-me.com

Snap! Matching Attendance Reports
With the new WRM site comes a fantastic new feature to make it even easier for old friends to find each other.

Each month members will receive a Matching Attendance Report alerting them to new members who attended the same college, club, place of worship etc as they did.

We don't believe in sending out unwanted email, so if you decide you don't want to receive similar reports in future, just click the 'unsubscribe' button when you receive your report.

Bigger and better... with your help
It's fantastic to hear that so many of you are now finding old friends with Who-Remembers-Me.com.

Thanks for your patience during these early days. Inevitably it takes time for word to spread and the database of members to grow large enough to see real results.

We've still got a lot of growing to do, but - with over half-a-million people now registered worldwide - we are certainly getting there. And, with your help, it won't be long before we reach a million and beyond.

Registration takes off worldwide
WRM now has people registered from an amazing 220 different countries (I know! We couldn't name that many either).

The top-ten countries with the most people currently registering is:

1.  USA
2.  UK
3.  Australia
4.  Canada
5.  New Zealand
6.  South Africa
7.  The Philippines
8.  Ireland
9.  India
10. Malaysia

Building the WRM community

If every member uses the 'tell a friend' link at the new site, the WRM community will grow and grow meaning more chances to find old friends.

Increasing the number of 'attendance' categories you are listed under will also help members to find each other. For example, instead of listing only your schools or workplaces, why not add the streets you've lived on and the clubs you've been a member of?

To increase your attendance categories please visit who-remembers-me.com

Tell us your story
A South African doctor working in London contacted us recently to say he was amazed to discover old schoolmates from Zimbabwe registered on WRM that's the kind of news we love to hear!

If you've contacted a lost love, favourite childhood neighbour or an old forces pal via Who-Remembers-Me.com, please let us know. Whatever your story we would love to hear about it. There is a magnum of Champagne for every story we use.

Please use the 'Tell Us Your Story' link on the home page or visit who-remembers-me.com

Profiles hints and tips
Writing about yourself can be hard to do. We'd like to encourage all our members to include a personal profile on the site after all, news from old friends is what WRM is all about so we've made it easier for you.

The new site includes a 'Profile' button which, when clicked, allows you to write a new profile, change an existing one or select a standard greeting. Check out the 'Hints and Tips' section where you can also read through example profiles for inspiration.

Please visit who-remembers-me.com

Greetings it's automatic
Because a blank page is a disappointing substitute for an interesting profile, our new site will automatically generate a friendly greeting where members have not included a profile.

To add or update an existing profile, please visit who-remembers-me.com

That's all for now. See you next time.

Best wishes,

The WRM Team

Welcome to the Autumn 2003 newsletter from Who-Remembers-Me.com. These quarterly newsletters to registered members are in plain text, to avoid browser and email client incompatibilities.

Over 80,000 people now registered – it’s unstoppable!
You’ll be as pleased as we are to hear that registration numbers have reached the point where members are starting to find other people through Who-Remembers-Me. So a big ‘Thankyou’ to all who have contacted us with their stories. Please keep them coming – and if you’re happy for us to use them on the site as well we’d be delighted - and you may win a magnum of champagne for letting us!

We know it’s going to take time for members to find each other in significant numbers, but with over 80,000 members in just over six months, that’s going to happen sooner rather than later. Be patient, keep spreading the word, and log those attendances from your own life, so other people can find you.

‘Willkommen, bienvenu, welcome’ - Who-Remembers-Me goes global
We’d noticed that people from countries other than the UK were already making their way to Who-Remembers-Me and registering, without us doing anything. We therefore brought forward plans for an international roll-out, which took place just two weeks ago. We’ve already had some amazing results, with registrations from 103 different countries since we went ‘global’. They’re not just from English-speaking countries, either, so we thought you’d be interested to hear about them. The world truly is a global village and we aim to be its noticeboard!

The top-ten countries with the most people currently registering is:

1. UK
2. Australia
3. USA
4. Canada
5. Singapore
6. New Zealand
7. Malaysia
8. Philippines
9. Ireland
10. Egypt

Your memories for sale? ‘Not likely’, says WRM founder Rob Billington!
Several of you have e-mailed us, following an article in a national magazine, to ask if we are planning to sell Who-Remembers-Me.com. Rob says: “I would just like to clarify the situation. Who-Remembers-Me.com is definitely not for sale. It is indeed true that we were recently approached by a well-known Internet company, interested in buying the site. We are instead considering several options for bringing in outside investment, which we need in order to realise WRM’s massive potential.” So, watch this space: we’ll keep you up to date with developments via the site and these newsletters.

Attendances get you noticed
Some of you have yet to add any attendances to your registration. Without these, you can’t be found by anyone searching the places you’ve lived and worked etc. Remember: you need to add at least one attendance to be found. Go on - do it today – you never know where it may lead!

Don’t forget to ‘Tell a Friend’

Yes, we’re banging the drum again, but the ‘Tell a Friend’ link on the website is so easy to use. Remember: the more you help us get the word out to as many people as you can – wherever they are, anywhere in the world – the sooner those memories will be jogged.

You can ‘copy and paste’ as many email addresses into the box as you like – just make sure there’s a comma, then a space, after each one. Just a few mouse clicks is all it takes to tell everyone you know about Who-Remembers-Me.

Attendance league table
Schools are still ahead, but Streets and Estates is now closing fast. Get those attendances entered and see what happens to the table in the next issue.

10,000 registered members – and rising fast.
It’s been an incredibly busy five weeks since the site went live on May 22nd. In just over a month we’ve reached the target we’d set for three. Even FriendsReunited took three months to get to this point!

So we’d like to thank you for the vital part you have played – and continue to play, we hope, in building the membership of Who-Remembers-Me to the point where we’ll all be able to start finding those old acquaintances, friends and relatives – and they’ll be able to find us.

We do need you to keep spreading the word, however, and to encourage everyone you know to register – it’s free until September 1st, don’t forget. In the meantime, please do be patient with the site and your searches – 10,000 people is a lot, but in a country of 60 million we know we’ve still got some way to go yet!
Searching for an old flame/love-struck after one encounter?

We’ve been contacted by the BBC for help with a programme being planned:

Sounds interesting, doesn’t it – can you help – and are you feeling brave enough?

Tell a Friend
The ‘Tell a Friend’ link on the website is so easy to use – and you can ‘copy and paste’ as many email addresses into the box as you like – just make sure there’s a comma then a space after each one. So for a couple of mouse clicks you can tell everyone you know about Who-Remembers-Me.

Adding ‘attendances’ adds real value to Who-Remembers-me
Registrations are vital, of course, but they’re only part of the story. What will make Who-Remembers-Me a really rich place to delve into the past, are what we call your attendances. Attendances mark periods in your life where you met the people who now populate your memories. They can be anything from where you were educated, to where you lived, worked, played, drank, worshipped etc. There are 16 categories of attendances on the site and we are fairly confident they cover most aspects of people’s lives – but as with everything else to do with the site, we’re open to suggestions.

So take a little time to go back into the site and start laying down your attendances. The more we all add, the more likely it is that people you used to know will find you – and you them.

What does the attendance ‘pop chart’ look like at the moment?
You won’t be surprised to learn that Schools are firmly in the lead, but we’re particularly pleased that Streets and Estates is in second place, well ahead of the rest of the pack. Founder Rob Billington was convinced that there was pent-up demand for the places we live, that other sites just couldn’t handle. The fact that there are also a large number of educational attendances is, he believes, a clear indication that people are pleased to have found a site where they can register details of their whole lives, not just their education. Is he right? We’d love you to tell us.

Here’s the whole league table – ‘Places of Worship’ is doing surprisingly well, don’t you think? We’re sure it’s all going to keep changing in the weeks and months to come – and that’s largely up to you, the members of Who-Remembers-Me.com.

Tell your story and win a bottle of Champagne
Publicity is vital if Who-Remembers-Me is to be a success – the more people hear about it the better. We know that when Rob gets interviewed on the radio, for instance, there’s an immediate rise in registrations shortly afterwards.

We’ve already got a lot of interest from the press, but of course what they really want to hear is that a WRM member has found an old friend, acquaintance or relative through the site. So we want to make you an offer: if you’ve found someone via Who-Remembers-Me – or they’ve found you – and you’re willing to go public, provided the story is genuine and it is used by the media, we’ll send you a magnum of Champagne to say ‘Thankyou’.

This isn’t going to happen overnight, but happen it will – who’s going to be first?

Registered but not active?
If you registered successfully you should by now have received an activation code by email so you can use all the facilities of Who-Remembers-Me. We know some people have had problems activating their accounts, due to a fault in the codes, but that has now been fixed. It’s best to use your computer’s ‘copy and paste’ function to enter the code when asked, rather than copy type it.

If you’ve mislaid or forgotten your log-in details, click on the link that says ‘Forgotten Login Details’ next to the login and we will send them to you again. If you don’t have an activation key code please click on the link that says ‘Send New Activation Key Code’. This is located above the activation key code box, just after login. We will then send you a new code. If you experience any further difficulties, please do not hesitate to contact us through the support link on the home page. Any accounts not activated by July 15th will be deleted and anyone who has not activated their account will need to re-register from scratch, so don’t delay.

There are also several hundred activated accounts that have not confirmed their year’s free paid-up registration. This can be done by clicking the link at the top of the page immediately after you’ve logged in. You need to be a paid-up member to use the search facility – and of course this is free for registrations before September 1st.

After September 1st full registration will be £5 per annum, but there will be no charge just to register and add your details so others can find you.

What can you tell us?
We’re young and growing fast. We think we’ve designed a clean, clear, easy-to-use site that is already practically free of bugs and gremlins. It always takes some real-world usage to establish this beyond doubt, however, and we fully accept there may be things we can do to improve the way the site looks and works.

Tell us the error of our ways, or suggest how we can do things better and, if we use your suggestion, we’ll not only waive the next annual £5 membership fee when it becomes due, we’ll also enter your name into our next Champagne prize draw.
